K. Joi Uzoh - M.A., CCC-SLP

DIRECTOR OF SPEECH AND LANGUAGE SERVICES
214-646-3554

Joi Uzoh obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree from Washington University in Saint Louis in Philosophy-Neuroscience-Psychology with a Minor in Speech and Hearing Science. She received her Master of Arts degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders from the University of Texas at Austin. She holds Texas licensure, the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association’s Certificate of Clinical Competence and won an Award for Continuing Education (ACE) from ASHA.

Ms. Uzoh’s Psycholinguistic and Speech training at Central Institute for the Deaf while attending Washington University in Saint Louis equipped her with alternative and multi-sensory approaches for addressing articulation concerns related to cleft palate, apraxia of speech, dysarthria, and severe phonological disorders. Joi holds specific training regarding the linguistic traits of children from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds; to help children become competent communicators in each linguistic community in which they participate. She has enjoyed serving a wide age range of clients (toddlers to octogenarians) in the private practice setting who present with post-stroke communication needs, developmental delays, stuttering and communication impairments associated with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Prior to the private clinical setting, she worked in public schools and home health addressing the articulation, language, fluency and pragmatics concerns of school-aged children. Her experience in the schools has made her sensitive to classroom expectations and other communication demands that children navigate each day.

She especially enjoys the private practice setting and that it allows more direct interaction with families and caregivers so that therapy can be shaped to address the specific communication demands of each family.
